There are three main goals that guide the Pathways For Learning Preschool program. The first goal is to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere for children. This is accomplished through the teachers, children, and ratio of teachers to children. While an important role of the teacher is to create an intellectually stimulating environment, children will not be able to benefit from this without first providing them with an emotionally safe and supportive setting. This environment as a whole will encourage a child’s overall and total development. The importance of respect for self, respect for others, and respect for environment is stressed with the children. Our underlying belief that all learning happens as a result of interactions between and among children as well as between children and adults, is an integral part of our program. Therefore, our mixed age grouping allows children to benefit from a rich environment of both peers and adults. Recognizing the importance of the teacher/child ratio, there are four teachers to a maximum of 20 children.
